Savings & Investments
Whether you are looking for low risk or high risk investments, an income stream or want to benefit from our renowned Discretionary Premier Investment Monitoring Service (D-PIMS), our team of experts are standing by and ready to help you in the most tax efficent way possible.
We never encourage you to take more risk than you need and we will not put you into inappropriate, illiquid investments as there are more than enough conventional products and services in the market place for us to provide a solution to your investment needs.
We believe inflation will be a significant problem over the coming years, but interest rates will almost certainly remain very low. It is therefore vital to seek advice to obtain returns over and above inflation, which are tax efficient and appropriate for your own personal risk profile and circumstances.
If you are not looking for high risk but want to beat cash deposit returns, take a look at D-PIMS 1 and 2. If you can invest for the longer term and can stand some moderate swings in value try D-PIMS 3 and 4. Alternatively, if short-term fluctuations are not a problem and you want to try to capture the returns from long-term global growth D-PIMS 5 and 6 could be the best options for you.
Please be aware that the value of investments can fall as well as rise. Past performance is not necessarily a guide to future performance.

D-PIMS Our Discretionary Premier Investment Monitoring Service
D-PIMS is not a product, but a service exclusive to Joseph Lamb. D-PIMS can apply to any of your investment holdings, whether they are ISAs, Pensions, Life Assurance Bonds or Unit Trusts and OEICS.
Our D-PIMS service identifies your needs for growth and income, and determines how much risk is appropriate for you. It has six risk rated portfolios, rated from 1 (Low Risk) through to 6 (Very High Risk). Every portfolio contains a range of underlying investment funds in various investment sectors, such as UK Equities (stocks and shares), Government Gilts, Corporate Bonds and Fixed Interest Securities, Commercial Property, Cash, Overseas Equity, and specialist funds, such as Commodities and Technology. These funds are run by market-leading, household names, such as Invesco Perpetual, Threadneedle, M&G, Artemis, Jupiter, Schroder, JP Morgan, amongst many others.
Our role is to determine which type of assets held by which fund manager make up your portfolio at any given time. We also monitor the asset allocation and underlying funds in real time to optimise your portfolio's growth potential and reduce investment risk wherever and whenever we can.
Under D-PIMS you give us permission to move these assets around, so that we can manage your money effectively, without the need for written authority or switch forms. This gives us the ability to take a more short-term view of the investment markets compared to conventionally packaged 'long-term' savings products, which can result in much better investment performance.
The three pie charts below illustrate the asset allocation of our medium risk ISA portfolio before, during and after the market turmoil of August 2011. This illustrates how being flexible, agile and adaptable can help your finances.
Of course, we cannot foresee every event in the world. Investment markets give 'clues' as to which direction they may be heading, but they are not always very clear, and global events, such as political risks, earthquakes and hurricanes can all have significant effects on world markets. However, we try to determine how much risk a portfolio represents in the short term, based on market and economic data and continually monitor all portfolios, adjusting them when necessary.
As a result, all investments can go down in value and need to be considered with a medium to long-term horizon.

Premier Investment Monitoring Service
This is the predecessor of D-PIMS and operates in a similar way. However, it does not, give us ‘discretionary’ powers. This means we still need your written permission to alter the asset allocation or fund choice within the portfolios.
As this process is significantly longer and we lose some of the investment control, the long-term performance of the portfolios is likely to be less. The portfolios are only changed as and when we have a clear long-term view of the markets. As a result of this lower activity, which may mean fund switching only once a year as part of our inclusive annual review, this is a cheaper option than D-PIMS by 0.25% pa.

Structured Products
There is no clue in the name of these products, but they can be divided broadly into two categories.
The first are ‘deposit based’. They replicate the security offered by conventional bank deposits, but have underlying structures to potentially improve the returns from cash without investment risk to your capital.
The second are ‘investment based’ and offer some form of investment return, subject to market conditions, but with less risk than conventional investments.
In essence they can be called a ‘halfway house’ between conventional deposits and conventional investments directly into stock markets.
The products on offer continually vary as they are issued in limited tranches, but can be very attractive. For an up-to-date summary of our preferred plans, simply call us on 01268 749880 or click here.
Bespoke ‘Independent Advice’ and Trustee Services
As well as independent advice in the areas of annuity purchase, life assurance and equity release, we can also offer independent advice on your investment and pension requirements. If these cannot be met by our restricted service, then we review the whole market for your personal needs.
Independent advice may typically be required for very large portfolios, or where there is a specific client need that cannot be met within the PIMS or D-PIMS services.
For example, many trusts have very specific investment requirements. These may have been set out by the settlor in their will, or they could be gifts and compensation awards to minors that may have stated needs or a very specific term, to an 18th birthday or a specific event such as marriage for example.
We are delighted to offer full Independent Financial Advice in these situations and currently run several large trustee portfolios on this basis. The terms of our Independent Financial Advice services are detailed in our terms of business.
